What are the federal holidays in 2027?

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management publishes the official list. When a holiday falls on a Saturday it is usually observed on the Friday before, and when it falls on a Sunday, on the Monday after. That matters for your "we're closed" posts: banks, post offices and many offices follow the observed date.

Christmas DaySaturday, December 25Friday, December 24

Because New Year's Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, the same weekend rule puts its observed holiday on Friday, December 31, 2027.

How are the moving dates calculated?

  • Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November; Black Friday is the day after, Cyber Monday the Monday after, and GivingTuesday the Tuesday after.
  • Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May, and Father's Day the third Sunday of June.
  • Daylight saving time starts on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November.
  • Easter falls on March 28 in 2027, which puts Mardi Gras 47 days earlier, on February 9.
  • Jewish holidays begin at sundown the evening before; Passover and Hanukkah dates above come from Hebcal.
  • The tax deadline is usually April 15, but the IRS can move it; check the IRS announcement for the 2027 filing season.

What makes 2027 unusual?

The NFL scheduled Super Bowl LXI for Sunday, February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. That puts one of the most-watched broadcasts of the year on Valentine's Day. For restaurants, bars and gift brands, it means choosing a lane (game-day food or date night) or explicitly offering both. Easter is also early, on March 28, so spring campaigns for Easter need to be ready in February.

How do you use this calendar quarter by quarter?

Q1: reset and winter moments

January is about fresh starts, returns and MLK Day of service; February stacks Black History Month, the Super Bowl, Valentine's Day and Presidents' Day weekend sales; March brings St. Patrick's Day and an early Easter. Chocolate makers and bakeries should plan Easter in early February.

Q2: family holidays and heritage months

April is quieter after Easter, which makes it a good month for evergreen content. May carries Mother's Day and Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer; June carries Pride, Juneteenth and Father's Day. If you post for a heritage month, do it with substance: people, history, partnerships, not a logo swap.

Q3: summer and back to school

July and August slow down for many B2B businesses but not for travel, food and leisure. Back-to-school dates vary by district, so check your local calendar before you plan. Labor Day on September 6 closes the summer.

Q4: the holiday stretch

Halloween, then a November built around Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and the five-day run from Black Friday to GivingTuesday, then December's holidays. Our guides What to post in November, What to post in December and our 40 holiday content ideas carry over from year to year: only the dates change.

How far ahead should you prepare each moment?

  1. Six to eight weeks for major retail moments (Black Friday, the holidays, Mother's Day): offer, visuals, stock.
  2. Three to four weeks for holidays with dedicated products (Easter, Valentine's Day, the Super Bowl).
  3. One to two weeks for awareness days and federal holidays: one post, one hours Story.

These lead times are rules of thumb, not standards: adjust them to your production and shipping times. Scheduling posts in a publishing calendar keeps you from discovering a date the night before.
